TxDOT thanks everyone who joined us for
the US 281 Blanco County Project RHL Workshop

Thank you for your participation in the US 281 Blanco County Project Rural Historic Landscape (RHL) Workshop held on July 13, 2024. The purpose of this project, in collaboration with local stakeholders and the public, is to enhance safety and improve connectivity and mobility along the US 281 corridor from US 290 to FM 306. This RHL workshop aimed to collect and identify priorities, ideas and concerns regarding the project and the RHL.

Since the workshop, the project team has been compiling the feedback received from each discussion group.

What we discussed

During the workshop, we discussed the RHL boundary and provided information about the surrounding environment, cemeteries and buildings to be considered in the RHL moving forward. We also discussed property impacts, access, water conservation, noise and safety.

There were approximately 40 attendees at the workshop and the following themes were observed from discussion and feedback:

  • The need for additional work on the RHL in identifying key features and setting the southern boundary
  • Concerns about property impacts and water conservation
  • Support for this type of event, appreciation to the project team in connecting with the community, and encouragement to keep the discussion going

One of the topics presented was on Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. We invite you to become a consulting party under Section 106. Please visit TxDOT’s Historic Preservation page to learn more, and please email Amy Tripson at [email protected] if you want to participate as a consulting party on this project.
