Update from the Mayor's Office

6/5/2023

The 18th Annual Blanco Lavender Festival is coming this Friday through Sunday
Please note that parts of the Square will be closed to driving starting Thursday at 5 p.m. and ending Sunday evening. Specifically, Pecan St. from 4th St. all the way down to 2nd St. will be closed, as will 3rd St. from 281 to Pecan St. If you plan to visit the Square during those times, be prepared to walk a bit.

Also note that this year, there will be no parking in the Pecan Bottom on 2nd St.

During Festival hours, the Chamber of Commerce has arranged for parking at the High School with shuttle service to the Square and the Lavender farm down the road (for a small ticket price to cover their costs).

We hope you’ll come and enjoy the Festival. It is looking to be great weather, they have their best-ever lineup of vendors, bands, and speakers, and we expect a crowd of anywhere from 35,000 to 50,000 people.

I know that some locals don’t like the inconvenience of the Festival. That’s sure a lot of people to pack into our small town over a weekend!  It’s important to understand that beyond the incredible goodwill this Festival brings to our city, this single event accounts for a very large portion of our sales tax revenues. Without it, our property taxes (and therefore rents) would be significantly higher.

It’s a great benefit to everyone in Blanco, so please join us in helping our guests feel welcome and appreciated, as well as expressing our gratitude to the Chamber of Commerce for hosting this fine event.

Coffee with the Mayor
This week’s Coffee with the Mayor will feature special guest Blanco Police Chief Scott Rubin. Join Mayor Mike and the Chief 8:30-10 a.m. this Thursday, June 8, at The Fairview Coffee Shop.
